Analysis: Scholars believe that Jacob and Esau represent two types of perfection; one being the man who is in touch with nature but still manages to maintain a relationship with God; This is Esau. Jacob represents the Torah Scholar, who does nothing but build a stronger relationship with God through Torah. Since Esau's represented perfection is more difficult to achieve, he was created as powerful, strong, and older than Jacob. This reason that Isaac, the father of Esau and Jacob, wanted to give Esau the blessing was that he saw Esau's potential. He believed that Esau could achieve great things if he overcame a few obstacles. However, Esau did not succeed in acheiving greatness, and Jacob realized that he should take the blessings instead. Eventually, Jacob becomes a blend betwen the Torah Scholar, and the God loving, nature loving man.
